Agricultural diesel and lead mechanic salary in Australia
A lead or diesel mechanic in agriculture earns a base of $100,000 to $135,000 and above, with remoteness and a lead remit lifting the top.
All figures are base salary in Australian dollars. They exclude superannuation (12 per cent) and the package on top (housing, vehicle and bonuses). Figures as at June 2026.

Remote and very remote postings price 15 to 25 per cent above southern hubs: northern operations advertise $52 to $60 an hour against $35 to $45 at southern family operations. A lead remit, carrying a team, dealer relationships and parts or budget responsibility at a remote corporate, runs $120,000 to $150,000, topping out above this band. Diesel motor mechanics are on the Jobs and Skills Australia shortage list, which keeps the whole band firm.

Housing is standard at remote on-farm postings, worth $20,000 to $25,000. A vehicle is standard on-farm, $15,000 to $22,000, usually a tool-of-trade ute with private use. Bonuses run around 10 per cent where they are used.
