Station manager salary in Australia
A station manager earns a base of $100,000 to $155,000, set by the head or adult equivalents carried.
All figures are base salary in Australian dollars. They exclude superannuation (12 per cent) and the package on top (housing, vehicle and bonuses). Figures as at June 2026.

The two tiers overlap by design: a strong manager on a smaller station out-earns an entry manager on a larger one. Corporate and institutional pastoral operators rarely advertise pay; their packages are negotiated around housing, station keep and remoteness, and usually clear the large-property high. Scale here reads in carrying capacity, head or adult equivalents, and the team it takes to run them, not land area, so an intensive southern grazing operation and an extensive northern station compare on the same measure.

A station homestead is standard, worth $25,000 to $35,000. A vehicle is standard, $15,000 to $22,000. With superannuation and those two benefits, a large-operation package commonly approaches or passes $200,000 before any bonus. Bonuses run 10 to 20 per cent of base, and a profit share above a threshold appears in some private structures.

Carrying capacity and herd scale (head or adult equivalents) set the base. Pasture intensity and any development program lift it. Couple-hire packaging is common in pastoral roles. Pay is negotiated around housing, station keep and remoteness.
