Farm manager salary in Australia: broadacre and cropping
A farm manager in broadacre and cropping earns a base of $115,000 to $165,000, set by hectares cropped and whether the country is dryland or irrigated.
All figures are base salary in Australian dollars. They exclude superannuation (12 per cent) and the package on top (housing, vehicle and bonuses). Figures as at June 2026.
| Operation scale (hectares cropped) | Low | Typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smaller single property (dryland) | $115,000 | $125,000 | $135,000 |
| Large or multi-property broadacre | $135,000 | $145,000 | $155,000 |
| Large-scale or irrigated operation | $150,000 | $160,000 | $165,000 |
Tiers read in hectares cropped and whether the country is dryland or irrigated: a smaller dryland program sits in the first bracket, large or multi-property broadacre in the second, and the largest dryland programs and irrigated operations in the third. The large-scale or irrigated bracket aligns with the live farm-manager post, where corporate dryland runs $145,000 to $165,000. Smaller single properties sit lower again, which is why the dryland tier runs underneath. Cotton sits on its own page, below.
Benefits on top.
On-farm housing is standard, worth $20,000 to $35,000 depending on the house and the market. A vehicle is standard, $15,000 to $25,000, the higher end with private use. Bonuses run 10 to 20 per cent of base at corporate operators and 5 to 15 per cent at smaller ones.
What moves the number.
Hectares cropped and program complexity set the base. Irrigation intensity lifts it. Governance and reporting load price a corporate operation above a smaller one at the same hectares. Remoteness adds roughly 10 to 15 per cent.
